Making A Difference : Dress A Girl Australia Next Scheduled Distribution - May 2019 for School Supplies

My next scheduled distribution will be in early May for School Supplies(Education without Borders Distribution #1) and school-aged handmade dresses for children between the age of 8 to 10 years old(Dress Distribution #121). These donations will be sent to a group (Young Focus Philippines) who does charity work in Tondo Manila.  All parcel donations must be received by me by Friday, the 26th of April. There will be no post deliveries between the dates of 18 to 22 of April due to Good Friday and Easter Monday non-working days so please consider these dates when sending your parcels. Making A Difference : Dress A Girl Australia turns 8 today

I always wanted to do something good for humanity but I never knew what that would be and when am going to do it. Until one Sunday morning while browsing the internet for new fabrics to hoard I ended up in a site that dresses girls around the world. It started with just me and my sewing machine, a few fat quarters from my collection and a desire to learn how to make a pillowcase dress so I can send a couple to share with the less fortunate girls in Belize. 

My very first dress I made for a little girl in Belize. She must be about 9 years old today and I hope she is doing well. Click on the image to read the story about the dress.

Ten months later it has grown into a community of sewing enthusiasts who wants to share their skills and their passion for sewing. It has attracted individuals who have never sewn a dress before and for some don’t even own a sewing machine but are very eager to learn to make dresses for the children around the world who needs it. A growing community who like me imagines a world where every girl owned at least one dress for every girl deserves to own one . A crafting community who wants to make a difference in this world one dress at a time and make this world a better place. 

Some donors have moved on and new ones are still inclined to join. After 8 years today (today was the very first day I made a dress) I am still sharing whatever I have and  whenever I can to disadvantaged children in the world. Happy Anniversary to Dress A Girl Australia and after 10,018 dresses, 1,129 t-shirts and 1,946 pairs of shorts, 149 quilts, 91 school totes, boxes of school supplies, a Dress A Girl Well in Kalagi Uganda and almost 4 clean water tanks for the people of Vinh Long  Province of Cambodia, I hope I will always have the strength and discipline to keep on growing and making a difference in this world especially to disadvantaged children. Thank you to all who have joined me in this wonderful journey. Much appreciated.

Making A Difference : Dress A Girl Australia Christmas Cards

I know you can do a lot with digital cards. You can put sounds to it and make it more attractive and fun to read and/or to watch. But being me who loves handmades I still prefer the old and traditional cards to make my Christmas greeting more personal and special. And this is why I have this set of special Christmas cards made for my charity work. Proceeds from these cards I saved up and use to pay for the cost of sustaining my charity work which is self-funded. I use the funds to pay for the cost of distributing dresses to different locations for the new year which I believe there are disadvantaged kids who deserve to own a new dress. Making A Difference : Christmas Cards for Dress A Girl Australia

Christmas cards for Dress A Girl Australia is now available for sale after almost a week of late nights designing, creating and printing them. Am not sure why I am not including this in my weekly creative life but I made them to sell so I can raise a little bit of money to help in paying for the cost of sending more dresses overseas especially this Christmas. I consider myself a craftivist. I make things using my crafting skills and sell them to do good in this great world of ours.

The cards come in 4 colors - green, red, blue and multi-color. They are of the standard greeting card size which is 110mm x 155mm. Has a blank inside panel for personal message and comes with a matching white envelope just like any normal greeting card. The only difference is that these cards are purely handmade. The only thing bought is the blank card itself.

In case you havent known, I actually run the global campaign of dressing girls around the world here in Australia. A global project called Dress A Girl Around the World by Hope-4-Women International whose goal is to make sure that every little girl owns at least one dress especially in the less fortunate locations around the world for each of them deserves to own one.

Making A Difference : Creative Life - Little Fabric Houses

I wasnt so sure if I wanted to be creative this week as I wanted to have a rest from the past 3 weeks of serious creations. I thought that if I created something for this week I will have to use the fabric scraps I have been collecting over the years and increasing in quantity since I started making dresses for my self-funded charity work Dress A Girl Australia. Every bedroom door I have in my house you will find plastic bags full of scraps hanging on the doorknob. Am not only a fabric hoarder but a fabric scrap hoarder too.

Then while reading blogs I follow on the train on my way to work I found this blog of a lady living in Japan who wanted to collect 100 handmade little fabric houses for the survivors of the Great Tohoku Earthquake and Tsunami disaster which devastated much of the coastline and surrounding areas of Northern Japan. She wanted to collect 100 handmade little houses with messages so she can share them with the people in the community. I thought it was such a nice gesture and a good way to put my fabric scraps into good use. I also thought the little houses made from her pattern were so cute I needed to make one myself.

Here are the five houses I made since Friday night. I was thinking of making only one house to send but after completing the little house, I decided to make another one until I ended up with 5 little houses. It was so much fun making them that I am going to make one more for my collection.

At the back of each of these little fabric houses, I attached the message below which I printed on a fabric sheet -

I was in a hurry to pack these little houses so I could send it today that I forgot to take a picture of the back of the house.
