Creative Life Week 40 - Christmas Headscarf

Am now into week 40 in my creative life and as predicted sewing will be taking over. A few more weeks and my creative life would be over. Am not going to say at this time whether I would be continuing my creative journey next year.

Well, this time I decided to make a headscarf. I have too many fabric scraps am not really sure what to do with them. A donor for my charity gave me about a dozen headscarves she made and when I saw them I thought they would be a perfect idea for my fabric scraps. Even the small scraps I can patch them together so I can come up with triangles. So here are the scarfs I made tonight. Two of them are made from a vintage fat quarter fabric and the other two are Christmas fabrics. I also have lots of Christmas fabrics some of them I bought about 10 years in the US while holidaying. Here is an image of the scarves I did. They measure about 8" x 16". They are reversible as the fabric I used for the front is the same fabric I used for the back.
I think I would make more of the Christmas headscarf, start a craze of wearing headscarf on Christmas Day made out of Christmas fabrics. I think it would be a great idea to be wearing one especially if it is going to be a very hot day and I think it would be a great way of raising funds. Yes, I think that is what I will do. Watch for these items in my store very soon.

Creative Life Week 39 - Big Book of Things

No one can ever take me away from my sewing machine and my fabric stashes and I think for the next few weeks and most probably until the end of the year, my creative life will be focussed on sewing.

For Week 39 of my creative life, I decided to use this panel of Big Book of things. It is a fabric panel full of images of things that you can find as listed on another page of the book. The final size of the book is 84cms x 50cms and when folded it is 42cms x 50cms. It looks just like any normal book except it is bigger and is made of fabric. It is tripled stitched on the edges and is filled inside with a thin wadding. You can use it as a floor mat for your special boy or girl while trying to figure out what those images are or if those images are found on the list of 'I see....'.

I made this 'book of things' fabric book for a special reason. I want to donate an item that can be auctioned for the Charity Auction for Dress A Girl Australia and want it to be useful for kids. This item is going under the hammer next week starting at 7pm, 2nd of November until the 7th of November. I also made a pillowcase dress and a pair of shorts that will be donated to Dress A Girl Australia on behalf of whoever gets to bid the highest on this item. If you are interested on this item, check out the Charity Auction for Dress A Girl Australia in facebook. Here is the link -
Please go and visit this page. There are lots of handmade goodies to choose from and you may like something. Also, dont forget to spread the word. A great time to do your Christmas shopping and for a good cause.

Creative Life Week 38 - Magnetic Buttons

If you are like me who keeps all the buttons I can find, then am pretty sure one of the weeks in your creativity year will have to be about buttons. This is my jar filled with buttons. Used to be so full that I can hardly close it until I decided to start using them for my next creative project.
I wanted to make pendants out of it so I started doing a mix and match and layering them. And then I realized I did not have any bails to use for a necklace. Eventually I will have to buy some bails so I can make them into pendants. I remembered I had a pack of small round magnets so went to look for it and my buttons ended up as magnetic. I have made some fridge magnets. Here they are and they dont look that bad either as fridge magnets. See how some of the smaller buttons fitted perfectly well inside the larger buttons. I used glue gun to hold them together.

I hope to sell some of them when I have decided on how to do the packaging. Some of them may end up as pendants when I have bought some bails.

Creative Life Week 37 - Calendar Wallhanging

I bought this fabric panel about 3 years ago and intended to make a 'green bag' to help save the environment by not using plastic bags.  Three weeks ago I decided to make a wallhanging instead.  Since the bag has two sides, I was able to make 2 wallhangings and intend to attached a 12-month calendar on each of them. I still have to make the calendar but at least the main section of the wallhanging is finished and I intend to donate these 2 items to my Dress A Girl Australia charity work. Proceeds from the sale of these 2 calendars will be used to cover the cost of sending parcels overseas to disadvantaged children.

Both wallhangings measure about 37cms x 34cms, are machine quilted and are double-stitched on the edges.  When I sell them, they both will come with a bonus dowel for easy hanging. The images below are only of the wallhangings and once I have printed the calendars I will take another picture of it. I need to buy some ink cartridges for my printer before I can do some printing.
Think Green
The three buttons at the bottom will be holding the calendar section which will be detachable and the calendar (simple monthly calendar) will be changeable every new year. The wallhanging below still needs buttons and a few machine quilting.
Love our Earth
Arent they cute? Am not sure if you will easily find these prints. Watch out for the full image including the calendar and I hope if you like it, you will buy it. I will be selling them at $39.95 each including the calendar (don't forget Christmas is just around the corner) and I will be putting in a button or 2 on 'How to love the Earth'. Watch for it. It is coming soon!

Nowadays, quite a tight schedule

It has been very busy weeks since my last post. I have been making projects for my creativty journey for the year and I never seemed to finish any one of them. In fact I have about seven uncompleted craft projects. The only time I can really do them is after work or sometimes on weekends as my weekend time is already alloted to my Dress A Girl (Around the World) charity work.

Anyway, in the last few days I was able to finish 2 of the items I have been working on and this will allow me to continue on my creative journey.
